I am taking on this challenge firstly as a personal goal, and secondly to support this worthy charity, Kids First Australia.

Kids First is a proudly independent child and family services provider and early education specialist. A purpose driven organization, whose vision is for all children and young people to thrive in resilient, strong and safe families and communities.

They pride themselves on pioneering and delivering ground-breaking, evidence-informed programs to children, young people and families. Everything they do is underpinned by their guiding principle of ‘HEART’ – Hope, Empowerment, Accountability, Respect and Trust - the values which bind their culture, purpose and vision.

After watching and sponsoring many colleagues participate in this cause, I am glad to finally step up and take part.

I have teamed up with friends and joined the team The Blister Sisters. Aptly named as hiking in new shoes is always fought with band aides, tape, talcum powder and strapping, nothing glamorous here!

The training has been challenging at times for me, stopping my walks and cancelling my gym membership has slowed my progress to fitness!
However, we have a great team being led by experienced hikers who donate their time and knowledge to the group. Tips like micro eating to keep up the energy levels while not eating too much at once, walking while putting on or taking off layers and taking the stairs at every opportunity.

A few stunning new walks have gone into the training mix:

Scrambling over rocks in Lane Cove National Park
Hiking along the coastlines both North and South of the city
Walking up near vertical roads near the Spit Bridge.

Now the bushwalking is taking over and I am loving the walks although not the spiderwebs across the pathways in the early morning, however the young wallaby was a treat!

Thank you
Kath
